SMART's NL 6000 & DN SOLUTIONS PUMA 600 have little to brag about when compared to the SMEC(Samsung) SL 6500 and SL 8500.
The Smart NL 6000 may have a few more inches of max turning diameter, but it falls VERY short on torque due to it's transmission design. While Smart uses the same 74HP spindle motor as SMEC & DN, it utilizes an in-line gear box between the motor and the spindle with the motor driving the gearbox via belt then another belt driving the spindle. Belts are the weak link in the transmission of power. SMEC's SL 6500/8500 series utilizes an integrated geared headstock/spindle with the only 1 belt driving the integrated geared headstock/spindle.
What's the difference? The Smart NL 6000 is only able to deliver 3792 ft-lbs of spindle torque with 74HP while the SMEC SL 6500 delivers 4956 ft-lbs and the SL 8500 delivers 5965 ft-lbs. with 74HP.
