The SMEC (Samsung) SL3500 Series clearly stands out when compared to the DN SOLUTIONS GT3100 & GT3100L. It really is in a class all-by-itself between the 3000 and 4000 series turning centers built in South Korea. The other South Korean makers just do not have an answer to the SL 3500.
In addition to having about the same maximum turning diameter (20") as others in its class, the SMEC (SAMSUNG) SL 3500 offers a 4.6" bar capacity vs. 4" and a longer maximum turning length (60").

Geared headstock spindles offer high torque for heavy duty machining while direct-drive spindles are known for speed and precision. SMEC's SL 3500 geared headstock spindle delivers an astonishing 1711 ft-lbs of torque with just a 35hp motor. Even though Smart's NL 3000B/BL offers up the direct drive 47HP spindle motor, it's maximum spindle torque of just 1202 ft-lbs is no match for the 1711 ft-lbs produced by the SMEC SL3500 series.
